- Lifting, positioning and ambulation
- Assisting in activities of daily living
- Universal precautions and emergency care
- Excellent communication skill, teamwork and diversity skills for the workplace
Caregiver School Nurse Assistant Training Program has two components.
NATP Part I (Theory)
The first part of our nurse assistant training takes place in the classroom. During classroom training, students will learn all aspects of patient care and nursing skills through lectures. It covers visuals, lab skills demonstration, homework assignment, mock testing as well as student hands-on participation.
NATP Part II (Clinical Practicum)
The second part of the program consists of a 3-day clinical training. During the clinical training, students will work directly with residents in a health care facility under the supervision of a Licensed Nurse, who is licensed by the State as a Nurse Assistant Training Instructor.
On your clinical rotation experience you will work side by side with other aides, nurses and other medical professionals. You will learn what it’s like to work as a nurse assistant in a long-term care facility.
The goal of the training class is to prepare each student to successfully pass the State of Hawaii Nurse Assistant Competency Certification Exam administered by Prometric. Our classes are conducted by professionals who are highly qualified and experienced RNs and LPNs who will do everything possible to help student pass the State Certification Exam.
After Completion
Once you successfully complete the training program you will be issued a Nurse Assistant Certificate of Completion. With this certificate and other requirements like CPR, First Aid, Physical Exam, Flu Shot, Criminal Abstract and etc, you will be able to find employment in Private Duty Agencies, Adult Day Care Centers, Home Health Aid Agencies, Assisted Living Centers, Care Homes, and Foster Homes
What is a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)
After you successfully completed the Nurse Assistant Training Program, you will register for the State Competency Certification Exam which is both for written and skills competency conducted by Prometric. Once you pass the State Exam, you become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
As a CNA, you will spend more time with the patient than any member of the healthcare team. Your job is to not only provide assistance with patient’s basic health care and activities of daily living, but also provide emotional support to family and friends.
CNAs can choose to work in hospitals, nursing facilities, continue their education towards becoming an LPN, or RN, or owning a foster or care home business. The law requires facilities participating in Medicaid programs to only hire Certified Nurse Assistants.
